"My art is motivated by a lifelong love of color. Most of my paintings have many layers. Some are finished works, then re-worked, which show through the surface, adding complexity and depth. My interest in the psychological influences my artistic process. How we make meaning with language about our life’s experiences overlaps to the creative process. Therapists help people find language to organize experiences. Hard lines and blurred areas are experiences, which shift in importance over time, into and out of clarity as we live and grow. Intuition in choosing colors and how they are applied is similar to a therapist’s urge to ask a particular question. The combinations of words people use often strike me as meaningful and are represented in some of the titles of my artwork."- from Ellen's website
