Born in Nantes (France) in 1954, lives and works in Brussels Belgium and in Le Cap Ferret (Bassin D’arcachon, France). After a Master’s degree in Law and a Degree from “Sciences Po”, Michel Brosseau worked as a journalist for several years before coming back to what had always been his passion… painting. When entering Brosseau’s studio one feels as if they had just entered a 19th century European atelier. Canvases are everywhere, filled with colored buoys and sailboat linens bright as if sunlight was pouring out from the canvases.
A keen multiformist, Brosseau doesn’t wander in a vast number of styles but constantly tries to explore manners, techniques and themes. He has created decorative art for many “Château” in the wine-growing Bordeaux area, murals, trompe l’oeil and other variations of forms often based on the history of painting in connection with the history of wine.
Recently published in American Art Collector magazine Michel Brosseau’s work is dedicated to easel paintings on sea-side themes, in which he lays a graphic and contemporary look, taking the subject out of anecdote and simple representation. He stays consistent in his style but tries to explore different manners, techniques and themes.
Michel was charmed and inspired by New England’s coast, majestic sailboats, peaceful harbors and quaint landscapes and from there he began a series of paintings dedicated entirely to New England.
