Jonas Wickman

Jonas Wickman was born in 1962 in Stockholm, Sweden. He received his initial education at primary art school in Stockholm followed by 3 years of art studies at the University of Birkagården, in the 1980′s. Early on in his career he came into contact with historical and decorative paintings, as well as the decorative arts.

Since 1984, Jonas’ painting background has been the orchestration of designing interiors in private homes and public spaces. He paralleled his design work with his Fine Art aesthetic causing a postive synthesis to evovle from the basis of the two crafts.

Wickman’s fascination for Impressionism inspired him to characterize the images where figures, buildings and landscapes shyly emerge from obscurity. Aspects that either dissolved in, or grow out of light.

The rural limestone island of Gotland has lent its strong light to the series of stone barns, while memories of the school years in the suburbs north of Stockholm is filtered through the diesel smoke in the city atmosphere.

The exhibition”Blue House” is buildings dissolved by intrusive light, which often seems more material than the frail fort walls of stone or metal. Symbolizing the necessity of letting the world in.
