James Rieck

James Rieck is an artist based in Baltimore, MD, and is currently a adjunct faculty member at both the Corcoran College of Art + Design in Washington, DC, and at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. He earned both his MFA ‘03 and his BFA ‘87 from MICA, attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, and the Glasgow School of Art.

For more than 10 years, James lived and worked in San Francisco as a mural painter, traveling extensively, and pastiching master paintings in private and commercial spaces, throughout Japan, Malaysia, France, and the U.S. This experience has had a strong affect on James’ painting, both stylistically and via scale, as much of his current work has an eye towards historical painting. In 2006, he received the prestigious Trawick Prize. James is represented by Lyons Wier Gallery in New York, Arin Contemporary in Los Angeles, and Hamiltonian Gallery in Washington DC. Recently he was included in the Flag Foundation show “Size DOES Matter” curated by Shaquille O’Neal.
